Chris Sloan advises clients on a wide variety of intellectual property, software, technology, e-commerce and Internet law issues. Chris has extensive experience in trademark and copyright protection and licensing, patent and technology licensing, and software licensing. He counsels many of the firm's e-commerce and technology clients on matters such as web site liability, domain name disputes, electronic contracting and Internet privacy concerns. Chris also represents many of the firm's health care clients in software licensing, development and implementation issues. He was recently selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2008 for his information technology law practice.


In the entertainment law sector, Chris represents several book publishers, music publishers, songwriters, and producers in connection with a variety of domestic and foreign publishing and licensing matters. Chris also represents a local television station, and has provided advice in connection with the production of several television shows, including licensing of domestic and foreign broadcast and home video rights.


In addition, Chris handles many general corporate matters, including drafting and review of nondisclosure agreements, protection of trade secrets, contract drafting and review, formation and organization of business entities, acquisitions and sales of businesses, and other related matters.


Chris is a long-standing member of the Executive Committee of the Tennessee Bar Association's Intellectual Property Law Committee. He also serves on the board of directors for the Nashville Technology Council, the steering committee for the Nashville Chamber of Commerce's FastTrac® TechVentureTM program, and is a member of the Nashville Chamber's Partnership 2010 Entrepreneurship Task Force.


Chris is a frequent speaker and contributor to CLE seminars, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, Nashville Technology Council events, and other similar events. He has published several articles in the Nashville Business Journal among other publications. In 2007, Chris authored "Chapter 5: Licensing Intellectual Property" for the American Bar Association's Intellectual Property Deskbook for the Business Lawyer.


Outside of the practice of law, Chris is actively involved in many conservation organizations locally, nationally and internationally, primarily through the Tennessee Ornithological Society, which is the oldest conservation organization in Tennessee. On account of his passion for all things related to birds and birding, he is one of the more widely recognized regional experts on bird identification and distribution. Several of his papers have been accepted and published in scientific journals.
