Commerce in the 21st Century is increasingly regulated by criminal prosecutions and severe civil sanctions.  Business entities that are either accused of wrongdoing or have been the victims of wrongdoing by employees or agents need the ability to determine quickly what has happened and to form a response.  At the same time, those organizations must assure that the very process of finding out what happened does not compound the problem.  Mr. Weinhardt’s presentation will provide basic steps and principles for conducting internal investigations of suspected wrongdoing in the corporate setting.

A question and answer session will be part of this webinar.

Who should attend?

Attorneys and accountants in firms with strong corporate practices, particularly practices with clients in heavily regulated industries.  Because the need for a corporate internal investigation is unpredictable, and because such situations can require very rapid decision making once they appear, it is advisable that all such law and accounting firms have a professional who is acquainted with the basic concepts of how to respond to a situation demanding an internal investigation.

What you will learn:

  • How to identify situations requiring a corporate internal investigation.
  • First steps to preserve evidence and to avoid claims of obstruction of justice.
  • Preservation and management of attorney client and work product privileges.
  • Fact-gathering and interviewing techniques.
  • How to communicate with prosecutors or regulators during and about the investigation.
