Description
On January 28, 2008, President Bush signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act for 2008. Among other things, this law amended the Family and Medical Leave Act (“FMLA”) to provide additional leave benefits to family members of individuals in the Armed Forces. This lecture will include a basic overview of the amendments and a discussion about how these new provisions of the FMLA should be administered by employers. The lecture will conclude with a short discussion about the Department of Labor’s recent proposed regulations relating to the FMLA, and how the new regulations may effect employers’ day-to-day administration of the FMLA.
