Course #: ENFM0036R

Description

The program will focus on the critical importance of engagement letters, and the common errors and oversights lawyers commit in drafting them. It will also identify and explain the handful of important ethical rules that apply to the formation of the attorney-client relationship, the scope of the engagement and the negotiated fee arrangement between law firm and client. The program will provide useful information and recommendations for any lawyer who interacts with clients and prospective clients at the formative stage of the attorney-client relationship.  It will also address the question of whether, when and how it is appropriate to modify fee arrangements in the middle of an engagement.

Who should attend?

It is aimed at both associates and partners, and will identify common sources of avoidable claims and losses, as well as disciplinary grievances, that lawyers can prevent by using carefully drafted engagement letters.

Recorded: 07/21/10
